A quick reminder before we start: sponsors help support the work behind this newsletter. Taking a moment to check them out is a simple way to support what I do here. Thank you. Now let’s get into it.

Lately, I’ve seen the same complaint everywhere.

“My reach is down.”
“My posts are being throttled.”
“Something is wrong with the algorithm.”

It’s frustrating.

You post more…
And somehow get less.

But here’s what’s interesting.

This isn’t throttling. It’s actually how the system is designed to work.

What’s actually happening

There’s a concept built into the X AI algorithm called:

The Author Diversity Rule

And it changes everything.

In simple terms:

The platform limits how many posts from the same person it shows in a short period of time.

Why?

Because if one creator posts 50 or 100 times a day, showing all of those posts would turn the entire feed into one voice.

So instead, the system creates balance.

It shows different creators.
Different perspectives.
Different content.

Why it feels like suppression

From a creator’s perspective, it can feel like something is wrong.

You post more.
You expect more reach.

But instead:

Each post gets less visibility.

That’s because your own posts are competing with… your other posts.

The more you flood the timeline, the more the system spreads your visibility across multiple posts.

X is not hiding this

What makes this situation different is transparency.

Unlike other platforms, X has open-sourced parts of its algorithm.

This rule isn’t hidden.

It’s intentional.

And it’s designed to improve the user experience.

Why this rule exists

Think of the timeline like a conversation.

If one person talks non-stop, the conversation becomes less interesting.

The Author Diversity Rule prevents that.

It ensures that:

  • no single account dominates the feed

  • smaller creators still get visibility

  • users see a mix of content

For users, this often feels better. For creators, it requires a shift.

The mistake many creators make

Most creators think:

“More posts = more reach”

But on X today, that’s not always true.

Posting too much can actually reduce the performance of each individual post.

Because the system won’t show all of them to everyone.

What works better instead

If the platform limits volume, the strategy becomes clear.

Post smarter. Not just more.

Here’s what that could look like:

  • Space out your posts

  • Focus on quality over quantity

  • Create content that drives replies and saves

  • Stay consistent, but not overwhelming

One strong post often performs better than five average ones.

What this means for you

If your reach has been inconsistent, it doesn’t mean you’re being suppressed.

It likely means:

Your posting strategy needs to adapt.

Less flooding.
More intention.
Better timing.

The platform isn’t limiting your growth.

It’s limiting repetition.

And that changes how you should create.

Because today, growth doesn’t come from posting more.

It comes from posting better.
