Then something interesting happened: a few of my mutuals on X started mentioning their newsletters constantly. Not in a forced way - in an excited way. They were sharing milestones, talking about writing again, and genuinely enjoying the process.

Their enthusiasm planted a seed.

Eventually, I decided to give it a try. Not because I had everything figured out, but because I was curious.

Starting with doubts (and zero subscribers)

When I signed up for Beehiiv, I’ll be honest - I had no idea what I was doing.

I started with:

  • Zero subscribers

  • A lot of doubts

  • And no clear plan

To break the ice, I added ten members of my family to get my first subscribers. I needed to see something there to make it feel real.

At that point, I wasn’t thinking about money or growth. I was just trying to start.

What happened next surprised me

In just one month and three days, things shifted.

I went from:

  • 0 subscribers → 234 subscribers

  • $0 → $247

Yes - you can monetize a newsletter on Beehiiv. Not overnight, not magically, but realistically.

What made the difference wasn’t talent or luck. It was consistency.

What I actually did (no secrets here)

Here’s exactly what helped:

  • I sent my newsletter daily

  • I talked about my newsletter every day on my socials

  • I collaborated with other newsletter writers

  • I treated it like something worth building, not something to “try once”

That’s it.

No viral moment. No complicated strategy. Just showing up.

“But I don’t know what to write about…”

If you’re already posting on X (or any other platform), you already have your answer.

A newsletter lets you:

  • Go deeper

  • Add context

  • Expand on ideas that don’t fit in a post

  • Build a relationship instead of chasing impressions

And there’s another important part people don’t talk about enough.

If anything ever happens to your social account - reach drops, suspension, algorithm changes - your audience is still yours. Your email list doesn’t disappear overnight.

That peace of mind alone is worth it.

How Beehiiv works (very simply)

Beehiiv makes it easy to:

  • Start for free

  • Write and send newsletters

  • Grow through referrals and collaborations

  • Monetize through ads and other options as your list grows: (earning features are available on paid plans. Upgrade when you’re ready to start earning).

You don’t need to be an expert. You just need to start and learn as you go - that’s exactly what I did.

Something to think about this week-end…

I didn’t start confident.
I didn’t start prepared.
I started curious and committed.

So if you’ve been thinking about starting a newsletter, maybe the real question isn’t “Will this work?”
It’s “What happens if I finally try?”
